Six Clarke Griffin/Bellamy Blake recs, The 100
Hello everyone, it's your February reccer, jaq_of_spades (or plain old jaqofspades at A03 and on tumblr) reporting for duty! I'm looking forward to taking you all on a magical mystery tour of my fandoms, new, old and just-on-occasion alike.

I'm going to start with The 100. Since I'm in love with so many cancelled shows, it's always a thrill to click with a new fandom that's actually got new canon being made. That tends to mean lots more fanfic and fandom buzz, especially if you are lucky enough to ship one of the popular pairings. And in The 100, that would be Bellarke.

Why This Must Be Read: A lovely slow build that sees Bellamy and Clarke enter into a marriage of convenience in order to claim tribal status – and land – for the Sky People. Beautifully structured around six dances they do together, it traverses time, emotion and territory along the way. And if that's not enough to make you read it, how about the mental image of sixty Grounders dancing the Electric Slide?

Why This Must Be Read: This little story is so beautifully written it feels like just a sprawling epic even though it doesn't even break 1500 words. But the sense of time passing and loss and the costs of survival are so elegiac that it feels like a much longer piece. Sad but not horribly so, romantic in a very prosaic, matter-of-fact way that fits Clarke and Bellamy so well.

Why This Must Be Read: Superb longish one-shot in the style of a first-person article for Rolling Stone, chronicling the breakthrough and steady rise of the rock band, The 100. The author creates a unique, lovable voice for the reporter himself, as well as offering a fascinating lens for us to view Clarke and Bellamy, Jasper and Monty, Raven, Finn, Octavia, even the rival band, The Grounders. Board their tour bus and don't look back: it's THAT good.

Why This Must Be Read: Not everyone enjoys a spanking fic or BDSM themes, but if you do, here's the Bellarke story for you. It was written as a gift for me, but even if it hadn't been it would have earned a place on this list with its spot-on characterisation of both Bellamy and Clarke, (she read about spanking in a scholarly article, he's helped a girl out before …) as well as the tenderness and mutual understanding that we see on the show. Not to mention the fact that pretty much everything Bea writes is perfectly pitched and well written.

Why This Must Be Read: Ava Rosier is a master of the really well thought out, well structured fic that reads like a treat from start to finish. In this A/U, she takes the boozy-marriage-in-Vegas trope and writes the hell out of it as Clarke itemises the night before in classic Clarke fashion, complete with footnotes, before coming to the conclusion that there are good reasons she ends up making out with Bellamy Blake when she drinks. Rich in moments of perfect insight into the characters, and full of perfect lines. My personal favourite: “Clarke remembered how utterly erotic it had felt to be understood.”

Why This Must Be Read: Everyone stayed on the Ark and grew up into the leaders they might have otherwise become. Magnificent trek through the political and social landscape in which Clarke is the youngest-ever Chancellor, and Bellamy is the newest Council member, butting heads professionally and struggling to deal with the sort of tension that can't be explained away as purely professional. Eight chapters so far, the ninth isn't far off, and Quentanilien is a good egg who promises to see this marvellous, richly textured story through to the end!

No problem—that's what we're here for!

(Also, only mods can add tags, so you wouldn't have been able to until now anyway ;) )
