Battlestar Galactica, 6 AU Recs, Kara/Lee
...or, as any shipper knows to call them, pilots. (also my #1 OTP of all time, in any fandom). Here are 6 AU recs, which I've chosen because AU has the advantage of being spoiler-free - which might be good for people who haven't finished the series yet. Anyway, enough talk, on to recs!

1. Fandom Category: Battlestar Galactica
Pairing: Kara Thrace/Lee Adama
Fic Title: The Road Not Taken (Special Rec: 21/30)
Author: workerbee73
Link: The Road Not Taken
Rating/Warning(s): R, I guess?
Genre: Romance
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: This is a one-shot set pre-miniseries, and involves some major swoonworthiness from both Kara and Lee. workerbee73is one of my favourite authors for pilots, a master of both longfic and shortfic, especially her later work - she's developed brilliantly as a writer for them, and the greatest thing about her is that she knows when to pull back on the words. When it comes to this ship, their UST and intensity in fic, is best conveyed via restraint instead of flowery language, and Bee gets that really well.

2. Fandom Category: Battlestar Galactica
Pairing: Kara Thrace/Lee Adama
Fic Title: Best Laid Plans (crossover with The West Wing) (Special Rec: 22/30)
Author: workerbee73
Link: Best Laid Plans
Rating/Warning(s): PG
Genre: UST
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: You don't need to be familiar with The West Wing to enjoy this - it's set in that 'verse, but it's basically just about Lee and Kara, after a work party at the White House. After a work party at the White House where Lee nearly causes an international incident, no less. It's funny and sweet, and you can count on pilots to be their eyefrakking, flirty UST-filled selves (also I really enjoyed the back-and-forth between Lee and his colleagues).

3. Fandom Category: Battlestar Galactica
Pairing: Kara Thrace/Lee Adama
Fic Title: Beauty And The Beast: A Frakked Up Fairytale (Special Rec: 23/30)
Author: innibis
Link: Beauty And The Beast: A Frakked Up Fairytale Part 1 and Part 2
Rating/Warning(s): NC-17, knives, drug use
Genre: Romance
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: This is what it says on the tin - a pilots version of Beauty and The Beast. It's a great concept, and I really like its execution here, particularly with the way it captures the simultaneous ease and intensity of their canon relationship so well. And despite the fairytale concept, it's pretty dark - so consider yourselves warned.

4. Fandom Category: Battlestar Galactica
Pairing: Kara Thrace/Lee Adama
Fic Title: Beauty And The Beast: A Frakked Up Fairytale (Special Rec: 24/30)
Author: callmeonetrack
Link: Dangerous Games
Rating/Warning(s): PG-13
Genre: UST. Major UST.
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read:. Because callmeonetrack can always be relied on to nail pilots. This isn't strictly an AU - it's set pre-mini, but is spoiler-free and full of some gorgeous, sexy UST during a game of Twister (with Zak present, no less).

5. Fandom Category: Battlestar Galactica
Pairing: Kara Thrace/Lee Adama
Fic Title: First Name Basis (Special Rec: 25/30)
Author: letterstonorah
Link: First Name Basis
Rating/Warning(s): NC-17
Genre: Romance
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: Because Norah is a fantastic writer for Kara and Lee in all settings. This one is AU, and has pilots meet at the Fleet Academy and get into a serious no-strings-attached fling. Well, until the strings start forming anyway. It's hot as hell (see the rating) and our pilots are still their messed-up but brilliant selves, so do give it and its followup, The Limit of A Function As X Approaches The End Of A Cliff (see next entry) a try.

6. Fandom Category: Battlestar Galactica
Pairing: Kara Thrace/Lee Adama
Fic Title: The Limit of A Function As X Approaches The End Of A Cliff (Special Rec: 26/30)
Author: letterstonorah
Link: The Limit of A Function As X Approaches The End Of A Cliff
Rating/Warning(s): NC-17
Genre: Romance
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: Because it's a kind of sequel to the absolutely brilliant First Name Basis, but can be read on its own - hence the separate entry. Kara and Lee work through the whole 'being in a relationship while they're at the Academy' thing and it is gorgeous and so very 'them', it's hard not to love.
