Pairing: Elizabeth Weir/Cameron Mitchell
Fic Title: A Good Man
Rating/Warning(s): NC-17, sex, violence,
Genre: AU, apoco-fic, romance
Why This Must Be Read: Because this pairing should not work. Because it's just so out there, that you gotta wonder why irony_rocks even attempted to write fic for it in the first place, especially such a long fic. But every so often, there comes a fic that makes you root for an unexpected ship. This story makes you rethink your position on so-called "crack pairings." IR writes Cameron/Weir beautifully, with awe-inspiring characterization that makes you have trouble remembering the fact that Cameron and Elizabeth have shared a nearly non-existent amount of screentime together.
The story is set during the Orii plotline, with Earth overtaken and the Atlantis expedition coming to the rescue for once instead of the other way around. IR explores the leadership dynamics, and while the story revolves around Cameron and Elizabeth, the backdrop of the apocolypse is dealt with a deft hand. There's a healthy dose of angst woven into the story.
But then there's flirting, fun and banter. Oh, yes, the banter. I just love the chemistry IR establishes between the two. It's no wonder that there's a small uprising of Mitchell/Weir shippers. ;-)
They hadn’t had the conversation yet – the one that clarified who outranked whom. It was a glaring omission, but Elizabeth hadn’t wanted to get into a pissing contest over authority immediately upon arrival. It had taken her this long to realize Cameron hadn’t brought up the issue for the same reason. Nothing was official, but with the Atlantis contingent outnumbering the SGC, they both had say-so. Except, put bluntly, this was the end of the world as they knew it, and that was certainly military jurisdiction if there ever was one. She didn’t want to fight over authority, though. She just wanted what Cameron wanted: their people back, safe and sound.
His shoulders dropped with a harsh release of breath. “Fine. We wait.”
She nodded in agreement. “We wait.”
