Day 28 - A kink fic.
Fandom Category: The Mentalist
Pairing: Grace Van Pelt/Wayne Rigsby
Fic Title: The Apple Trap
Rating/Warning(s): NC-17. Exploration of various kinks. I am really, truly, very much not kidding.
Genre: Smut, sexual exploration, romance.
Why This Must Be Read: Um. Just go read it. They're in-character? This story very much feels like I should be slipping it to y'all (TEEHEE) wrapped in brown paper, and I mean that in the most complimentary of ways.
Fandom Category: Captain America
Pairing: Peggy Carter/Steve Rodgers
Fic Title: More Ass Than Tits
Genre: Smut, kink, friendship, romance.
WIP?: Yes, but it's updated!
Why This Must Be Read: This is a ridiculously sexy story, and one that does a lot of work to keep character right, and still push the envelope. I love this Peggy and this Steve because of how practical and sensual they both are. They're not paragons of anything, they're just people.
Day 29 - A fic that best deals with that character you loved who was unfairly fridged/killed in canon.
Fandom Category: Battlestar Galactica
Pairing: Dee/Billy Keikeya, Eight/Billy Keikeya
Fic Title: something big is gonna happen (over my dead body)
Rating/Warning(s): R-ish? Violence, Major Character Deaths, and the fact that it's BsG.
Genre: Angst, AU, friendship.
Why This Must Be Read: This is the absolute tour-de-force of Billy Keikeya fic. It's painful (I cried for two solid hours while reading it, originally, but I'm the biggest Billy stan EVER, so) and amazing and was definitely written before the final-5 reveal. This completely broke my heart... and pasted it all back together again.
Day 30 - A fic you've read and reread a dozen times.
Fandom Category: Tin Man
Pairing: DG/Wyatt Cain
Fic Title: If Things Were Different
Author: Fiesty Fox
Rating/Warning(s): M/NC-17. Violence, sexy times, crappy parenting.
Genre: Action/Adventure, Romance, Suspense, Friendship, AU.
Why This Must Be Read: I, honestly, have reread this about ten times. Fiesty is incredibly readable and does a fantastic job of keeping the plot straight and moving. This is a really, really nifty alternate look at how the OZ could have been very different, and how the four musketeers end up in each other's orbit. It's probably the closest thing to comfort-reading that I have!
Day 31 - BONUS - Wildcard/Catch up on a missed day!
Fandom Category: Tin Man
Pairing: DG/Cain, Lavender/Ahamo
Fic Title: Sky Water
Rating/Warning(s): NC-17/M. Violence.
Genre: Adventure, angst, post-movie, supernatural, romance.
WIP?: Yes, but updated!
Why This Must Be Read: There's an aesthetic about jenni's writing that I've loved since she was writing The West Wing fic. Her characters all have this very grounded feeling to them. But this story... oh, this story. It's a hard, gritty piece of work that doesn't shy away from the darker aspects of the mini-series (tho, the mini-series did do that its own self), but that doesn't exactly revel in them either. And I'm very interested to see where all of this is going, because I can see the structural build-up, and am anticipating the pay-off.
Fandom Category: Grey's Anatomy
Pairing: Meredith Grey/Alex Karav
Fic Title: relapsing and remitting
Rating/Warning(s): NC-17. Depression, sexy times.
Genre: Friendship, adultery.
Why This Must Be Read: The number one thing that I liked about Grey's Anatomy is that it has a lead heroine who has some hardcore depression. And a fairly realistic one. I also really love that the show is framed (or was in seasons 1-3, I've not watched since) around the fact that Meredith has buckets of self-knowledge and that the happy, skippy, non-depressive people on the show keep trying to fix her, when she's doing fine. She has coping mechanisms, she has things she does. Her life only goes to hell when people try and "fix" her or make her more than she's capable of. And the #1 thing I love about Meredith and Alex's friendship (as well as Meredith and Christina's friendship) is that they've never done that to each other. And this story is not a romance. It's their friendship and the people they are with occasional sex. And it's brilliant.
Fandom Category: Sherlock
Pairing: Molly Hooper/Greg Lestrade
Fic Title: The Meaning of Being Lonely
Rating/Warning(s): R, violence, spoilers for all episodes.
Genre: Angst, AU, friendship, romance.
WIP?: Yes, and has not been updated in a while, but it stops in a good spot!
Why This Must Be Read: I blame seren_ccd for getting me into this pairing at all. BLAME. That said, this is a wonderful, plotty followup to the last episode of season two. It loves all its characters, but acknowledges their flaws, and I love that so much. Also, any story wherein Molly and Mycroft are adorable at each other, I will love until the end of time.
Fandom Category: Hawaii-50
Pairing: Kono Kalakaua/Steve McGarrett
Fic Title: Trials of a Survivor
Rating/Warning(s): PG, spoilers for season 2.
Genre: Introspection, Angst, friendship.
Why This Must Be Read: This is probably my favorite post-season2 followup. It's Kono-centric and does a really great job of digging in to the darker side of resentment and frustration on Kono's dive into the ocean. I love how whole Kono comes across in this. Broken, flawed, and frustrated, yes, but she's whole in a way that the show doesn't really dig into at all.
Fandom Category: Glee
Pairing: Rachel Berry/Noah Puckerman, Hiram Berry/Leroy Berry
Fic Title: Luck of the Jewish
Rating/Warning(s): PG, season 3 spoilers.
Genre: Crack, humor, friendship, silliness, romance.
Why This Must Be Read: I think my love of cracky, cracky deliciousness has been well-documented in the course of my reccing career here at het_reccers. This is absolutely no exception. From the awesomeness that is Bekah Puckerman, to Puck's awesome made-up uncle, this story is an absolute delight. It's silly, sweet, and something I'd PAY to see on my tv.
