Day 19 - An angsty fic.
Fandom Category: Supernatural
Pairing: Joannabeth Harvelle/Dean Winchester, Lisa Braeden/Dean Winchester
Fic Title: and then you just reload again
Rating/Warning(s): PG, Major Character Death.
Genre: Angst, Grief.
Why This Must Be Read: Oh, this story breaks my goddamn heart. It's Dean after Jo's death, and the use of her shotgun as a touchstone and reminder is just devastating and so, so perfectly right.
Day 20 - A fluffy fic.
Fandom Category: Revenge
Pairing: Emily Thorne/Nolan Ross
Fic Title: little boxes
Rating/Warning(s): PG, need knowledge of the show/characters to really appreciate this.
Genre: Humor, silliness, evil.
Why This Must Be Read: I love this story because it's so very, very in-character. It's Emily and Nolan playing at "real" life, all the while torturing each other, mocking the hell out of "real", and with this very thin underpinning of longing.
Day 21 - A rare pairing fic.
Fandom Category: Veronica Mars/NCIS
Pairing: Veronica Mars/Eli "Weevil" Navarro
Fic Title: For Now
Rating/Warning(s): R, future fic, violence, child (temporarily) in danger.
Genre: Casefile, reunion, romance, friendship, crossover.
Why This Must Be Read: This story just punches me in the face with the awesome. It's set a few years down the road, with both Veronica and Eli continuing down their paths. I am a SUCKER for a good star-crossed pairing (this does not HAPPILY EVER AFTER, but it ends very, very well, and with a lot of hope), and Jaq does a fantastic job of keeping everyone in-character, and absolutely bringing the chemistry. Reading this story was like I got the show back for a few brief minutes, and damn was it amazing.
Day 22 - A canon pairing fic.
Fandom Category: Roswell
Pairing: Elizabeth Parker/Max Evans, Maria DeLuca/Michael Guerin, Isabel Evans/Alex Whitman, Tess Harding/Kyle Valenti
Fic Title: Forging a Life Bond
Rating/Warning(s): NC-17. Violence, sex.
Genre: Romance, action/adventure, sci-fi, friendship.
Why This Must Be Read: I think the biggest seller on this specific story is that it's kind to its players. To me, this is the season 2 that we should have gotten out of the show. Not only does it wrap the whole "destiny" plot up, and well, it ends happily for the kids. Also, it's well written, romantic, sweet, surprising, suspensful, and has a plot that moves well.
Day 23 - A pairing where one character is paired in multiple ships.
Fandom Category: Samurai Champloo
Pairing: Fuu/Jin, Fuu/Mugen, (kinda Jin/Fuu/Mugen, but not really?)
Fic Title: Nenju
Rating/Warning(s): Hard R. Violence, mature themes.
Genre: Action/Adventure, Introspection, friendship, romance, post-series.
Why This Must Be Read: Oh, man. If you've ever watched Samurai Champloo and just ITCHED over the ending? This is the story for you. I love how slow a build this whole thing is, and how it really plots its own course. I also love the anticipation and suspense this story manages to weave into both its plot and the romantic tension that flows through all the characters. This is a barn-burner of a story, and I'm GIDDY that this category exists so I can rec it!
Day 24 - A crossover pairing fic.
Fandom Category: Doom, Star Trek XI
Pairing: Christine Chapel/John Grimm, Samantha Grimm/John Grimm (ish?)
Fic Title: My Soul Remembers Yours
Author: Hidden Relevance
Rating/Warning(s): Rish, violence, major character death(s?), post-movie.
Genre: Supernatural, angst, AU, crossover, romance.
Why This Must Be Read: Hey, remember how Star Trek XI fan-casted Rosamund Pike as Christine Chapel because of Doom, and how Karl Urban had inappropriate chemistry at her because Sam was supposed to be his sister? Well, not only is this your "get out of shame free card!" paired with a "Reaper-as-Bones!" crossover, it's fantastically written, and also includes a "past life-soulmates!" bonus card.
Day 25 - A fic where a canon character is paired with an original character.
Fandom Category: The Avengers
Pairing: Ishtar (OFC) Mokri/Steve Rogers, Pepper Potts/Tony Stark, Jane Foster/Thor
Fic Title: Multicultural Understanding In Modern Media (Or That Time Steve Got a Dame)
Author: Author 376
Genre: Romance, friendship.
WIP?: Complete, but the sequel is in progress!
Why This Must Be Read: I have so much love for this story (and its sequel) because of how rich all of the OC's come across. Not only is Ishtar funny and smart, but her family is so funny and SO great. I also love that the love story in this is very, very firmly rooted in the friendship that Ishtar and Steve develop, and I dare you to not want them to SMASH FACES FOREVER by the end. (Also, Steve's war with Ishtar's cat is AMAZING BEYOND THE TELLING. And ALL the women in this make me want to jump up and down, squealing and pointing while yelling, "THIS THIS THIS, DEAR GOD, FOREVER THIS, PLEASE UNIVERSE, GIVE ME THIS FOREVER.")
Day 26 - A future fic.
Fandom Category: Harry Potter
Pairing: Hermione Granger/Harry Potter, others.
Fic Title: The Phoenix Syndrome
Rating/Warning(s): R-ish. Ron and Ginny do not come off in the best light, so FYI.
Genre: Angst, AU, romance, friendship, futurefic, kidfic.
WIP?: Yes, but it's updated fairly regularly.
Why This Must Be Read: I will say right here, right now, that this is not a story for everyone. However, I really like that the author is very thoughtful on how the plot and narrative are built. I also love the kids, and am always impressed by this author's ability to continue universe-building. I'm also a huge sucker for a later-in-life love-story, and this is turning very much into that.
Day 27 - A pre-series fic.
Fandom Category: Stargate: Atlantis
Pairing: Elizabeth Weir/John Sheppard
Fic Title: Contraction and Expansion
Genre: Friendship, introspection.
Why This Must Be Read: Okay, I might be squeaking a little on defining this as het (it's very much a gen story), but this is a pre-pilot episode look at Elizabeth and John. It's beautifully in-character, and thusly pretty much the basis of any head canon I have for either of them. It's gentle and quiet and PERFECT.
