Fandom Category: The Avengers
Pairing: Darcy Lewis/Clint "Hawkeye" Barton
Fandom #: 23
Special Recs: 69-80
Fic Title: Code Purple
Genre: Angst, Drama, Romance
Special Rec #: 69
Why This Must Be Read: I like this fic because it explores a little of the darker side of our heroes' lifestyles. Just like regular people, heroes have to deal with nightmares and PTSD. Sometimes these include flashbacks. Clint has a flashback and it puts Darcy in danger. This wraps up sweetly, but you can feel Darcy's concern and panic when Clint doesn't recognize her.
Fic Title: Darcy Saves the Day
Genre: 5-and-1, Romance, Action
Special Rec #: 70
Why This Must Be Read: A fun, linked series of moments covering 5 times Darcy saves the day and 1 time the others show up to help save her day. The romance blooms across the arc. I enjoyed this because I enjoy Darcy being a stand-up person who gets things done. She's funny, clever, and gutsy in this one.
Fic Title: Stay Away From My Trigger, I'm a Loaded Gun
Genre: Romance, H/C
Special Rec #: 71
Why This Must Be Read: This one shot deals with Darcy's feelings about Clint constantly being in danger as an Avenger. I like this fic because it treats Darcy's concerns seriously - and so does Clint. They have a small heart-to-heart about it after Clint tracks her down in the firing range when he woke to find her gone.
Fic Title: This is Not My Ninja Shirt
Genre: Action, Drama, Pre-ship
Special Rec #: 72
Why This Must Be Read: Darcy goes undercover for SHIELD and Clint is not impressed. He's exceedingly unhappy actually, and he makes that clear. What he doesn't make clear is why he's unhappy about it. "Fury wanted to put the girl I had a completely hopeless, pathetic, embarrassing crush on in immediate danger. I didn't... I wasn't at my best."
Fic Title: Good News, Bad Timing
Genre: Humor, Romance
Special Rec #: 73
Why This Must Be Read: It's a cute, funny little one-shot with some humor, sap, and a hint of the darkness of Clint's past. The title is basically the plot - Darcy has some good news for Clint...she might have picked a safer time to tell him.
Fic Title: Enjoying Yourself?
Rating/Warning(s): PG13 mostly with one sex scene -- Also, it was written BEFORE the movie, so it is basically a complete AU. English is not the author's first language and sometimes the phrasing reflects that.
Genre: Romance, Drama, Action
Special Rec #: 74
Why This Must Be Read: Fun and enjoyable romp about how Darcy becomes an integral part of the Avengers. If you like "In Charge" Darcy, you will probably enjoy this one. I love how she kind of steamrolls through and over some things.
Fic Title: This is Our Song
Genre: Romance, Humor, Drama, Action
Special Rec #: 75
Why This Must Be Read: Matchmakers galore! Jane and Thor are getting married, and this fic takes place mostly during the reception. Clint and Darcy get sent to check on a potential wedding crasher, and things spiral from there. Wait until you get to the epilogue and find out who the real matchmaker is (& why)!
Fic Title:</b> Third Times a Charm?
Special Rec #: 76
Why This Must Be Read: This is a just funny little one shot. Darcy and Clint wake up married...again! Shouldn't they get a clue? Any more would be the story, but it should make you giggle.
Fic Title: Clipped Wings
Rating/Warning(s): PG13/R/M - deals with character death & suicide
Genre: Angst, Suicide, Grief
Special Rec #: 77
Why This Must Be Read: Actually a two-part series - Clint is on indefinite leave after a tragedy. Normally I don't like sad ones, but this one is well-written and shows the complexity of grief - as well as how easy it can be to bury oneself in the grief while seeming to move on. I like how the author does not shy away from the mental anguish and fractures caused by tragedy.
Fic Title: Broken Arrow
Genre: Angst, Drama, Humor
WIP?: Stories - No, Series - Yes
Special Rec #: 78
Why This Must Be Read: Currently a two-part series, but marked incomplete. Clint thinks he's bad news for Darcy, so he breaks up with her. She tries to move on, he tries to let her, and things don't really work out. Part 1 covers Darcy and Clint while Part 2 covers what happens to Darcy's less-than-stellar date. In part 1 you get the angst and "boys are stupid" bit - Clint because he needs a clue and the date because he's just a jerk. In part 2 you get the humor as the date's bad deeds come home to roost - he shouldn't have made a threatening move in Darcy's direction.
Fic Title: Learning Curve
Special Rec #: 79
Why This Must Be Read: Almost stream of consciousness, but not quite - Darcy and Clint definitely notice each other. They don't actually speak to each other until the very end, but it is an interesting chess game on who can get who's attention throughout the days.
Fic Title: The Unusual Avengers Legacy Protocol
Rating/Warning(s): PG13 (thus far) - it is an interesting mix-up of a tale
Genre: Drama, Action, Romance, Sci-fi, lots of crossovers
Special Rec #: 80
Why This Must Be Read: Okay, this is kind of an extra rec as it is still in the build-up stage. If you enjoy the many characters of Jeremy Renner, you might want to check this one out. We are not yet to the point where Darcy appears on the scene, but we are promised it is coming. The author is on chapter 20, and seems to be carefully trying to set everything up. I wanted to rec it because I am looking forward to seeing how this is spun out. I figured I would rec it here because in response to a question/comment on Darcy/Clint, the author gave the following response:
And yes, Clint and Darcy are going to be epic; it could probably be described as sweet, corny and hilarious. Marina described their first meeting once as "getting on like a house on fire. A lot of alcohol, a lot of sex and the next thing anyone knew, they were in a committed relationship." It's gonna be awesome.
The story, in and of itself, circles around the army's attempt to recreate the Super Soldier program. Instead they end up with the Brothers. Each of them will have one heck of a destiny - and kick-ass partners to share it with. It is in their contract by the way - they are not allowed to take over the world.
