Why This Should Be Read: Too Dear For My Possessing put John at odds with an old and renewed suitor of Teyla who does not fail to act where John has hesitated. This prince and Teyla quickly grow serious as a jealous John and the team try to discover more about him and his motives. Will John be able to tell Teyla what they find out and, more importantly, how he feels? And if he does, will she ever forgive him? This is angsty and features some fabulous lines and characterizations. I like how the author tackles Pegasus galaxy politics and is unafraid to show emotional cowardice in John. She gives him great depth and he is all the more sympathetic for it. The very funny Rodney and Ronon almost steal the story as they scheme with John behind Teyla's back. This story is a stand-out also for how it allows Teyla the leader to shine; she is so brave, intelligent, emotionally complex and compassionate that it seems natural for both of these very different men from two galaxies to love her so desperately.
