Five 'Eureka' Recs for Challenge 54

Fandom Category: Eureka
Pairing: Allison Blake/Nathan Stark
Fic Title: I Still Love You
Author: sheepfairy
Rating/Warning(s): NC-17/Explicit sex.
Genre: PWP
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: Sure, this may be porn, but it's really in-character porn. I like how the author depicts the little differences in how Allison and Nathan behave when together as opposed to when they're in their public roles (especially Nathan):

Nathan moans, and she smiles and shifts up against him. He's always so calm and so cool, and she likes to see him losing his composure, especially when he's losing it with her.

I also like that this is porn about two adults who have a history together, whereas so much smutty fanfic is first-time!fic (which, is fine in some cases, but can become boring after the 10,000th story).

Fandom Category: Eureka
Pairing: Allison Blake/Nathan Stark (implied Jack Carter/Allison Blake)
Fic Title: Still
Author: blackmamba_esq
Rating/Warning(s): PG
Genre: Romance
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: This story is so very good on so many levels, I don't even know where to begin.

I didn't realize it was a Christmas story until I was already into it (although it's a good thing the SyFy Challenge came this time of year), but I love the author's use of the Season. Christmas is supposed to be about family and memories, but the former is denied to Nathan while he's stuck reliving the later.

I admire how blackmamba_esq uses the time-travel element as well. I like how it ties into the fractured nature of the the story-telling, just like how present experiences can make us recall memories in a non-linear way--one situation can make us remember something past which brings forth a completely separate memory, which is paralleled in the way Nathan is travelling through time. The sci-fi/fantasy element becomes a metaphor for a real-world emotion, one that is particularly strong during the holidays, which I think is the best way genre writing can be used.

OK - I'm rambling. Let's just say: It made me laugh. It made me cry. It made me think about past mistakes.

Fandom Category: Eureka
Pairing: Allison Blake/Nathan Stark
Fic Title: Woman, Wondering
Author: jedibuttercup
Rating/Warning(s): K+
Genre: Character Study
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: A wonderful character study of Allison, including her ill-fated romance with Nathan and her friendship with Jack:

She knew she'd hurt and confused him in the months leading up to the wedding-that-hadn't-happened; she still wasn't sure how to explain it to him in words that didn't sound selfish and condescending, but in a strange way it had been Jack's strong, supportive nature and unwavering appreciation for her that had given her the confidence to accept Nathan's second proposal. Without his catalyzing presence, she didn't think either she or Nathan would ever have reached a place where they could have made those sorts of promises to each other again, and mean them.

jedibuttercup's writing always shows such an insightful understanding of these characters.

Fandom Category: Eureka
Pairing: Jack Carter/"Natalya" Stark
Fic Title: The Woman Who Would Be...
Author: medie
Rating/Warning(s): NC-17
Genre: Genderswap
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: Jack Carter's life? Really that damn surreal and before you argue, consider this. He's fucking Nathan Stark's female counterpart from an alternate universe on the floor of a GD elevator in the middle of some technological breakdown that's probably going to be Fargo's fault.

Sure, genderswap is a cliche -- but, when it's done right, it can be ridiculously HOT (like in this fanfic). Also, in my mind's eye, girl!Nathan looks like Stephanie Romanov.

Fandom Category: Eureka
Pairing: Douglas Fargo/Julia Golden
Fic Title: Voyeur Drone
Author: serene_quill
Rating/Warning(s): R/Crack, and possibly a little weird/squickish. Voyeurism, AI style.
Genre: Crack
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: I'm glad I'm not the only one who found it a tad bit odd that Martha was watching Fargo/Julia, even if she did provide the disco ball. (And why does a battle drone have a disco ball, unless it was the one borrowed from Warehouse 13? To dazzle the enemy to death?) It'd be like K-9 watching Doctor/Romana. (Now I want Martha/K-9 fic.)

I think I just went off on a tangent, but I love Martha's POV in this fic and her totally wrong but completely logical conclusions.
