Fandom Category: Community
Pairing: Annie Edison/Jeff Winger
Pairing: Very non-explicit, abortive hints at Troy/Abed/Britta.
Fic Title: The Bleeding Heart Show
Genre: Humor, romance, friendship, post-ep.
Why This Must Be Read: Probably one of my favorite Community stories. It really keeps the spirit of the show (and the complete wackiness) and gently pushes each of the characters into new and different places with each other and their relationships. But it does it in a really organic way! Also, the mental images of everyone doing a Twilight parody are FANTASTIC. Also, Annie and Jeff are just awesome and awkward and not awkward in all the ways the show has gotten us to expect. And yes, it addresses the finale.
Fic Title: Summer Classes: History 101 and 102
Genre: Humor, friendship, pining, postep.
Why This Must Be Read: Imma let the summary tell the story for me: "Jeff's first summer at Greendale. Jeff is both trying to find a way for the South to win in their mandatory civil war reenactment and to patch things up with Annie, who is awkward and avoidant. This includes not killing her new crush with his plastic Bowie knife."
And because it's Señor Chang teaching history and running a Civil War re-enactment.
Fic Title: Home
Genre: Friendship, romance, futurefic, postep, humor.
Why This Must Be Read: Oh, my god, this STORY. Probably one of the first Annie/Jeff stories I ever read, and it completely won me over. I think the thing I like most about this story is that it lets both Annie and Jeff evolve into who they need to be (and want to be) for their relationship to work, and that they actually mean it at the time. Their growth is awesome and feels incredibly organic. Also, the ensemble is fantastic and I love everyone.
Fic Title: With Words Unspoken
Genre: Friendship, romance, humor, postep (finale).
Why This Must Be Read: First off, everyone is startlingly in-character. Also, it's stupidly adorable without getting weird. I love that this show completely breeds for fluff, and this? THIS is quality fluff. (The crew takes an ASL class, hijinks ensue, and Jeff and Annie figure some stuff out.)
Fic Title: The Aftermath
Genre: Post-ep (finale), humor, romance, friendship, slight-angst.
Why This Must Be Read: Because this is ABSOLUTELY how the post-finale works in my head. I love that everything gets thrown out and addressed all at once, but it's done in a way that makes a ton of sense character-wise. I LOVE that everyone gets called on their behavior and that there aren't any secrets at the end. Just the post-everything-is-shared awkward. SO MUCH LOVE for this!
Fic Title: You Know How When Your Phone Went Dead? Well, That Was Me On the Other End
Genre: Postep (Debate), romance, humor, smut.
Why This Must Be Read: It's kind of interesting that there's so little smutty Jeff/Annie in the universe. There are one or two stories (mostly with tasteful fades to black) for this pairing and a handful of kinkmeme/pornbattle entries, but this is probably the fandom gold standard. I guess people are more skittish about May/December than incest? *shrug* Anyway, this is an absolutely fantastic post-Debate smut-with-plot wherein everyone's in character, Annie is a badass (and evil), and Jeff is more than a little dumbfounded. SO GREAT.
Fic Title: Slow Show
Link: 1 | 2
Genre: Friendship, ensemble, romance, angst, au, humor.
Why This Must Be Read: Because this is just amazing. Seriously, the prose and the plot and the pacing is just fantastic. The title is deadly accurate in that this IS what a non-sitcom, literary version of the show would be. Well, if you like Jeff/Annie anyway. ;) It's also Jeff and Annie taking a slow (!) route to each other and it's just so incredibly lovely. dearygirl has a fantastic talent with these characters, and I recommend you go hit up her Community tag. I could seriously just do a post of recs for her stuff.
Fic Title: Only constellations stay the same
Genre: Introspection, humor, friendship, romance.
Why This Must Be Read: Because this is a story about Annie. It's her summer (post-finale) and it's just. There's something so sweetly wistful and hopeful about it that. Man, it's just a really good story, okay? It's got great Annie character development and great ensemble, and it just really feels like summer.
Fic Title: (Is There) A Hand To Take Hold Of the Scene
Genre: Humor, angst(ish), romance.
Why This Must Be Read: First off, Vaughn writes a song about Jeff. Second, SECRET ROMANCE EXPOSED. Third, the actual song Vaughn writes about Jeff.
Fic Title: Circles
Link: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4
Genre: Introspection, friendship, romance, humor.
Why This Must Be Read: One of the earliest Jeff/Annie stories written, it picks up RIGHT after "Debate" and takes everyone on an awesome, meander-y journey. 0penhearts is another author that I absolutely can't read enough of and totally think everyone should go hunt down her fic tag and READ EVERYTHING. Seriously.
Fic Title: In Which Jeff Winger Acts Like A Little Girl and Annie Grows a Backbone
Genre: Introspection, au, angst
Why This Must Be Read: Because this is totally Jeff. And it's an Annie I would LOVE to see more of. This is an absolutely fantastic tag to "Modern Warfare" that has Annie calling Jeff on his shit and standing up for herself in a way that's just. Man, it brings a tear to my eye.
Fic Title: Perfect Moment
Genre: Postep (finale.. I KNOW, OKAY? Can we say 'seminal moment'? Yeah? That.), angst, romance, friendship.
Why This Must Be Read: I had a hard time picking one of greta_garbo's stories. Honestly, this author harkens back to an earlier fandom time when everyone wrote episode tags and fluff and gen and cute. She's SO prolific and all of her stuff is just such fun to read, it was hard to pick just one. Still, go poke at milady_milord in the fanfic tag, and you'll find a lot of gems written by her. This one is neat because it's got finale resolution and Jeff making a decent, if half-assed attempt at a grand gesture.
