Why This Must Be Read: “The Cutting Edge” is my favorite movie of all time so I was hesitant going into this story, but the author manages to blend the plot from the one with the characters of the other just beautifully.

"The Grand Manner" by brutti_ma_buoni (G)

Fandom Category: Devil's Cub by Georgette Heyer
Pairing: Mary Challoner/Dominic Alastair
Fic Title: The Grand Manner
Author: brutti_ma_buoni
Link: http://archiveofourown.org/works/35699
Rating/Warning(s): G
Genre: Romance, Humor
WIP?: no
Special Rec: 20 of 34

Why This Must Be Read: "I cannot see your face, but I trust, sir, that you are my affianced husband? If not, I fear your lifespan will be sadly curtailed within a brief time. I have yet to convince my lord that his violent impulses should sometimes be controlled." This vignette is a continuation from the book, with spot-on character voices and the same wry tone and understated sense of humor as the original. I don't feel that Mary and Dominic spend nearly enough time together in the novel, so this short scene from the start of their actual relationship is just the sort of thing I love to read.

Century Maker, by emeraldoni (PG-13)

Fandom Category: Harry Potter
Pairing: Hermione Granger/Tom Riddle
Fic Title: Century Maker
Author: emeraldoni
Link: http://archiveofourown.org/works/272360
Rating/Warning(s): PG-13 (my own estimate, the fic isn't rated)
Genre: AU, drama, time travel
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: I have a real tendré for odd couples, and the Harry Potter fandom is no exception. I stumbled upon this over at AO3 and fell in love with it from beginning to end. The ship is almost incidental, and doesn't really happen until at the end, and even then, it's kind of open-ended, and in this story, it works. Still, the author writes Hermione's character beautifully, logic warring with emotion. Tom is as clever as ever, and yet, over time, one can see the influence that Hermione has on him. A very intriguing, gripping story.
