"The Amazing Adventures of Hat Guy and the Girl Who Stole His Hat" by Raven (PG-13)

Fandom Category: xkcd
Pairing: Hat Girl/Hat Guy
Fic Title: The Amazing Adventures of Hat Guy and the Girl Who Stole His Hat
Author: Raven
Link: http://yuletidetreasure.org/archive/75/theamazing.html
Rating/Warning(s): PG-13
Genre: Romance, Anarchy, Love
WIP?: no
Special Rec: 7 of 34

Why This Must Be Read: This short story does something wonderful - it takes a relationship from a comic drawn in stick figures and makes it feel real and substantial and touchable in a way that is funny, beautiful, dark, and so human. While xkcd is my favorite webcomic, it never occurred to me before I read this story that you could write fanfiction for it. This story blew that thought out of the water. It's gorgeous.

And if, for some reason, you're unfamiliar with xkcd, the main storyline for the Black Hat Couple (and the entire backstory for this rec) is a short, completely standalone series of five comics which you can read in just a couple minutes: 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.

"three alice ficlets" by vega_ofthe_lyre (PG)

Fandom Category: Alice
Pairing: Alice Hamilton/Hatter
Fic Title: three alice ficlets: rained in, oh boy you've left me speechless, and the well-hatted woman
Author: vega_ofthe_lyre

Rating/Warning(s): PG
Genre: Romance, Humor
WIP?: no
Special Rec: 8 of 34

Why This Must Be Read: "Oi, girl, what have we said about manhandling the haberdashery," he says, and when her eyebrow quirks he runs a hand through his wild hair and adds, "Yeah, shutting up now." These three disconnected Alice ficlets are whimsical and romantic, all tied up in a bow with a pitch-perfect Hatter voice. They cover, in order: pizza on a rainy evening, the wedding of Jack and the Duchess (and oyster tattoos), and Hatter attempting to find the perfect hat for Alice. And they are all love.
