It doesn’t take John long to figure out why someone who could barely sit still long enough to get a hair cut would steal a picture of Cassie Robinson to keep. She’s brave for one thing. When John tells her she’s somewhere between heaven and hell, that it’s his between, not her own, she takes it stride, asking questions instead of breaking down like others do.
This fic is so effortlessly inventive and moving it blows my mind. The pairing is an unusual one on the surface, but the moment John and Cassie meet it seems like the most natural thing in the world. Cassie has so much strength and curiosity here and her connection with John is palpable. I'll warn you though, the ending will break your heart. You know, in a delightfully, twisted kind of way.
