North Sea by Punctuator (M)

Fandom Category: 28 Days Later
Pairing: Selena/Jim
Fic Title: North Sea

Rating/Warning(s): R, graphic violence, language, sexual situations, zombies
Genre: Action/adventure, romance, drama, angst, mystery

Author’s Summary: Sequel to 28DL, starting right where the original ends. Jim, Selena, and Hannah take a helicopter ride straight into a vortex of intrigue, fear, pursuit, and revenge, from West Yorkshire to the end of the world. Climb aboard!

Why This Must Be Read: Why this fic doesn’t have a million reviews is one of life’s great mysteries. It is brilliant! Extremely well-plotted, well-written, and the voices are perfect. There is action galore and you can see everything so perfectly as you read it. Selena is a BAMF in the absolute best of ways as is Hannah. Once you start this fic you won’t be able to let it go.

Why This Must Be Read: Both Matt and Alesha are just gorgeous in this. Compassionate and understanding of each other. It deals with what happened to Alesha in such a sensitive and realistic way and it made me feel all sorts of good about these two. The writing is sensual and it’s just a gorgeous read.

"After The End" by Arabella and Zsenya (R)

Fandom Category: Harry Potter
Pairing: Hermione Granger/Ronald Weasley, Ginny Weasley/Harry Potter, others
Fic Title: After The End
Authors: Arabella and Zsenya
Rating/Warning(s): According to the authors, "This story will be rated R for mature themes, some violence, angst, and language, at intervals. Harry, Ron and Hermione are now eighteen, and will be acting their age. Also, though we have done our very best to stay as close to JK Rowling's world and canon, we've had to skip ahead three years and create that history for ourselves. That said, we welcome you to enjoy this - we sure have."
Genre: Epic-length sequel with elements of adventure, romance and more.
WIP?: No.

Why This Must Be Read: Quite literally the second piece of fanfiction I've ever read, "After The End" was written while we all waited desperately for Book 5 to come out. Essentially, it picks up in a post-Voldemort Potterverse, as everyone struggles to recover from a devastating war and to deal with outlying elements of it. Characters we love fall and fumble into each others' arms beautifully if not always gracefully. (The authors must have been borderline clairvoyant, to have called a few of the pairings that later became canon.)

It's AU now, but at the time it was an entirely believable continuation of the series, from the characterization to the writing style to the length, plot arc, and setting. I have to imagine it still holds up now--frankly, the writing at points may be even better than JKR's. If you read one massively long Potterfic, and it isn't Hermione, Queen of Witches (also by Arabella), this is it.

"Office Supplies" by Thistlerose (PG)

Fandom Category: Harry Potter
Pairing: Hermione Granger / Ronald Weasley
Fic Title: Office Supplies
Authors: Thistlerose
Rating/Warning(s): A bit of undressing that hints at sexytimes to come.
WIP?: No.

Why This Must Be Read:
In contrast to this morning's epically epic fic of epicness, this afternoon's rec is a delightfully short one-shot made of fluff, wherein Hermione's parents don't get that magical offices don't need traditional office supplies.
