trek: team

in having new eyes by betweenthebliss (R)

Fandom Category: Star Trek '09
Pairing: George Kirk/Winona Kirk (also some Winona/OC)
Fic Title: In Having New Eyes
Author: betweenthebliss
Link: http://archiveofourown.org/works/132215/chapters/188530
Rating/Warning(s): R/canonical character death, non-explicit sex
Genre: drama/romance/friendship
WIP?: No.

Why This Must Be Read: Winona and George seem to have an immediate chemistry that for a time is obvious to everyone except Winona, and their interactions are laugh-out-loud funny when the two aren't frustratingly stepping around their emotions. Only about fifty percent of this fic is the story of the time Winona had with George before the disaster that occurs at the beginning of the reboot, but what the author accomplishes with the canonically merely glimpsed character of Mrs. Kirk both before and in the wake of her grief creates a character who feels complicated and real. Winona's often strained but poignant friendship with Pike is also memorable and stacks up well with how he's involved in the film.

STXI Kirk/Rand rec

Fandom Category: Star Trek AOS
Pairing: Janice Rand/Jim Kirk
Fic Title: Four Times Jim Kirk Surprised Janice Rand
Author: seren_ccd
Link: on lj or ff.net
Rating/Warning(s): T/PG-13
Genre: romance/humor/ust
WIP?: no

Why This Must Be Read: Oh, there are so many reasons. It's brilliantly written and does nu!Trek versions of two TOS episodes, which is really fun, and Jim is ridiculously adorable. But the main reason? That time with the chair. Seriously. It's possibly the hottest thing I've ever read and it's not even porn! Love it.
