The Last Beautiful Thing by shantirosa (NC17)

Hello, I'm samescenes, and I will be your monthly reccer this December. The month of tidings and joy, if you enjoy Christmas. The month of hellish claustrophobia if you work in retail. I will be taking the much more sedentary route of reccing 20 fics this month, but will do my best to get in as many different fandoms as I can.

First up:

Fandom Category: Merlin
Pairing: Uther/Morgana
Fic Title: The Last Beautiful Thing
Author: shantirosa
Link: here
Rating/Warning(s): NC-17 // Dark themes, graphic violence, graphic sexual content, dubious consent, character death. Spoilers for series one of Merlin. Spoilers for the Oldboy movie.
Genre: AU, angst
WIP?: No.
Special Rec: 1/20

Why This Must Be Read: Okay, please don't let the warnings scare you off. This fic is so good. Uther is captured by Nimueh and locked away for ten years. Then, suddenly, she releases him, and a young woman named Anna nurses him back to health. But she's headstrong and wild, and insists on accompanying him back to Camelot to find Arthur. The fic is based on Oldboy, so if you've seen the movie you'll know it's not light fare, but this Uther is at once vulnerable, and still as wary of magic as ever. It stands at over 20,000 words long, so put aside some time.

Carpe Diem by Bertie Bott

Fandom Category: Harry Potter
Pairing: Hermione Granger/Tom Riddle
Fic Title: Carpe Diem
Author: Bertie Bott
Genre: Time Travel Fic, Romance
WIP?: yes

Why This Must Be Read: This is one of the best written stories that I have ever read. Tom is realistic and Hermione does not all of a sudden turn him good not does she turn bad. It is an epic romance with lots of aha moments.

"She and Him (and Her)" by alias424 (T)

Fandom Category: Castle
Pairing: Rick Castle/Kate Beckett
Fic Title: She and Him (and Her)
Author: alias424
Rating/Warning(s): T/Mild innuendo
Genre: Humor/Romance
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: Nikki Heat is in Castle's head. The problem is, she won't shut up, and she has her own opinions about Castle and Beckett's relationship. This piece does a delightful job of interweaving Castle's internal dialog (not monologue) during a conversation with Beckett.
