Nightmares and Dreamscapes by theladyfeylene R

Fandom Category: Silent Hill 2
Pairing: Maria/James Sunderland
Fic Title: Nightmares and Dreamscapes
Author: theladyfeylene
Link: http://community.livejournal.com/sh_het/48373.html
Rating/Warning(s): R. Contains sexuality, violence, references to character death. Also spoilers.
Genre: Horror

Why This Must Be Read:

This is James, remembering and imagining. It keeps him wonderfully in character, and deals with the dark aspects of Silent Hill without being nothing but that. In my opinion it's a difficult fandom to write for, but if you want to give it a try, try this short, intense fic.

True by Jill Kirby (m)

Fandom Category: The Pretender
Pairing: Miss Parker/Jarod
Fic Title: True
Author: Jill Kirby/ kirbyfest
Link: http://kirbyfest-fiction.dreamwidth.org/18009.html
Rating/Warning(s): M for Mature themes
Genre: AU, Angst, Romance
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read:

I have never recced here before but when I saw this challenge I just gotta to start. This fic is something I want to make into a teddy bear and take into bed. Jill Kirby is a fantastic author, everything she writes just forms into pictures in your head, a wonderful pictures.

I was never a big fan of AU´s but this fic changed it. A reality in which Thomas didnt die and Miss Parker had the "happy ending" except, it isnt anything she expected. Angsty and thrilling and so in character, my all times favorite.

She had everything she'd ever wanted, and she didn't know if she wanted it any more.

Complicity by callherblondie

Someone else recced my favorite fic of all time last year (Uninvited/RSVP by ossian---a Sark/Sydney Alias story and its sequel) but here is an extremely close #2.

Fandom Category: Alias
Pairing: Sark/Sydney (but the entire cast is there, too)
Fic Title: Complicity
Author: callherblondie
Link: This is her memories, where you can find links to all the chapters
Rating/Warning(s): NC17
Genre: Action-adventure/Romance
WIP?: Yes, but at a whopping 42 chapters, you won't feel cheated; plus, by the time it stops, you'll have a pretty good idea of where it was going and that everything would be okay for these crazy kids.

Why This Must Be Read: Set in a season 3 AU, this fic does the best job I've ever seen of blending gripping drama with non-cracky, realistic hilarity. The Sydney (3rd person) POV voice is spot-on and that of a real woman. The snarky banter between Sark and Sydney is a dream. She doesn't woobify Sark's character; he's still an insufferably smug bastard, but oh-so appealing, and you get why Sydney is simultaneously disgusted by and attracted to him. (She also includes my personal idea that underneath the smooth spy exterior, he's just a little bit socially awkward). The missions they go on are really well-done, the sexytimes are very sexy, and the romantic angst is delicious. It's loooooong, but you'll be unable to stop reading, so make sure you have at least a free hour. If you liked Alias, I promise this will make your week. :-)

Rationale by Elly (R)

Fandom: Stargate: SG1
Pairing: Sam Carter/Jack O'Neill
Fic Title: Rationale
Author: elly427
Link: http://elly427.angstnromance.net/sg1/rationale.htm
Rating/Warning(s): R
Genre: Romance
Special Rec: 15/31

Why This Must Be Read: Old-skool, and still brilliant. Set after the episode Death Knell, this is what the show would never have even considered showing us but should have, damnit. This is a Sam who is broken, but still strong. Hurting, but still able to feel. Wonderfully written, this story is classic Sam/Jack.

Director's Cut by Sammy (R)

Fandom: NCIS
Pairing: Ziva David/Tony DiNozzo
Fic Title: Director's Cut
Author: littlesammy
Link: http://littlesammy.livejournal.com/214773.html
Rating/Warning(s): R
Genre: Romance
Special Rec: 16/31

Why This Must Be Read: Sammy writes some of the best Tony and Ziva characterisations in the fandom, and this story is an excellent example of why. Her Tony and Ziva are strong and broken and screwed up and perfect -- everything they are in the show. Well written, this story deals with some of the aftermath of Somalia in a way that the show has yet to do.

Repairs by nikitee (R)

Fandom: Star Trek: Enterprise
Pairing: T'Pol/Charles "Trip" Tucker III
Fic Title: Repairs
Author: nikitee
Link: http://triptpolers.houseoftucker.com/fiction/author_nikitee_repairs.shtml
Rating/Warning(s): R
Genre: Romance
Special Rec: 17/31

Why This Must Be Read: Set in season two, this is an alternate look at how the Trip/T'Pol and T'Pol/Archer storylines at that time could have gone. With an almost lyrical style of prose, this story will keep your attention until the end.

Challenge 50; Talking Stick/Circle

Fandom Category: Star Trek: Voyager
Pairing: Kathryn Janeway/Chakotay; other canon pairings
Fic Title: Talking Stick/Circle
Author: Macedon & Peg Robinson
Rating/Warning(s): R? Violence
Genre: Drama
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read:

I was lured into posting my first rec ever for this challenge, because anyone who appreciates great writing should read the Talking Stick cycle.  Not a single story, but a sprawling, epic series that spins off from the first season (Kes is very much alive, and there's no Seven of Nine to be found).  I can't possibly do justice to this astonishing piece of storytelling, except to say that it's legendary, it's the finest writing I've ever seen in any fandom, and it changed the way I think about family, community, heroism, and heritage.  If you think you didn't like Voyager, or if you didn't like what it became in its later seasons (really, who did?), then you should read this, because this is all of that wonderful potential done right.

Of Love And Bunnies by CrazyGirl47 (T)

Fandom Category: Power Rangers
Pairing: Kimberly Hart/Tommy Oliver (and a whole lot of others)
Fic Title: Of Love and Bunnies
Author: CrazyGirl47
Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2213080/1/Of_Love_and_Bunnies
Rating/Warning(s): T
Genre: Humor/Romance
WIP?: Yes (Don't let that WIP fool you, this is completely worth it. This story's been going since 2005 and has over 100 chapters, so there's plenty to keep you satisfied.)

Why This Must Be Read: This story is a lot of things. It's a high school reunion story, it's a road trip story, it's a coming of age story, it's a romance--but mostly it's so funny you'll laugh yourself sick. Despite being a story about spandex-clad superheroes, very little of the plot involves world saving--and even that isn't so much world saving as hysterical chaos. There is really nothing the rangers seem capable of that doesn't in some way lead to trouble. Even a house party, which is its own brand of chaos for normal people, can't exist for them without turning into an alien invasion.

As far as the romance goes, I can honestly say I'm never unsatisfied. Getting Tommy and Kimberly back together (or just in the same room) is the driving force behind a lot of action. And when they finally get down to the big elephant in the room (namely, the Dear John letter) this fic handles it better than any other I've ever seen.

"Man of the World" by enigmaticblue (PG-13)

Fandom Category: Angel the series
Pairing: Wesley Wyndam-Pryce/OFC, Cordelia Chase/Angel
Fic Title: Man of the World
Author: enigmaticblue
Link: http://www.freewebs.com/enigmaticblue/angeltheseriesfics.htm or http://www.athenewolfe.com/justrewards/viewstory.php?sid=384
Rating/Warning(s): PG-13
Genre: Drama, Romance, Angst
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read:

It wouldn’t be long now, though. Wesley would find a way to fix things, to make it so that Fred never had to die, so that Holtz never took Connor.

Wesley would put right everything he’d managed to destroy.

Why is this my Favorite Het Fic of All Time?
Well, I do have a passion for long, well-written time-travel fics.
What would happen if you were given the chance to set things right? Wesley is thrown back in time, only to discover later that he should have been more careful what he wished for...

Also Tuff, the OFC, is wonderfully crafted... - Really, she writes sarcastic commentaries in the margins of romance novels, what's not to love? ;)
