Objects in Motion NC-17 (Always-a-girl-Kirk/Spock)

Fandom Category: Star Trek Reboot / AU
Pairing: Always-a-girl-"Kirk"/Spock
Fic Title: Objects in Motion
Author: [info]vaingirlfic
Rating/Warning(s): NC-17
Genre: Romance/Humor
WIP?: No

Because until you read this fic you have no idea that you NEED always-a-girl-hooker-"Kirk"/Spock in your life.

It's funny, well written, and very "in character"...if Jim Kirk were a girl and a hooker.

Star Trek - Spock/Uhura

Fandom Category: Star Trek 09
Pairing: Spock/Uhura
Fic Title: A Compass Wouldn't Help At All
Author: peri_peteia
Link: A Compass Wouldn't Help At All
Rating/Warning(s): PG-13
Genre: Drama, Romance, Action/Adventure
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: This is a fantastic AU in which Spock became Captain of the Enterprise at the end of the movie. Not only does it feature a beautiful and touching Spock/Uhura relationship, it also naturally builds on the almost-friendship between Spock and Kirk in a way that doesn't feel forced. If you want to understand Spock as a character, this story is a must-read and makes it clear that Spock and Spock Prime are two very different people.

Star Trek - Spock/Uhura - Miscommunication

Fandom Category: Star Trek
Pairing: Spock/Uhura
Fic Title: Miscommunication
Author: salr323
Link: Miscommunication (it's 5 parts, follow the links at the bottom to continue)
Rating/Warning(s): PG to R
Genre: Romance, Drama
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: I'm truly surprised that this story hasn't already been rec'd here because it's one of the most popular Spock/Uhura stories out there and seen by many as the one by which all future stories will be judged. I honestly can't say enough good things about this story and salr323 's writing in general. The characterizations are spot on and it'll have you dying to read the next part, even though, as you'll slowly realize, there might have been a little outside inspiration for this story. The Spock/Uhura relationship here is as fiery as the hangar scene in the film suggests. It also features some of the most romantic writing I've read in fan fic, as well as beautifully drawn-out UST. I especially loved how she wrote Spock's internal conflict and angst, being the unique and solitary individual he is.

There's also a beautiful but highly angst-filled follow-up, Po-wak (aftermath) that deals with Spock's decision to leave to rebuild Vulcan.

Dune/Children of Dune (Five Recs; Multiple Ratings; Multiple Authors)

*As a general warning: Dune, by its very nature is effed up so it's kind of hard to get around some of the incesty overtures that permeate this verse. For that, all your thanks can go to Frank Herbert.

Fandom Category: Dune
Pairing: Alia Atredies/Duncan Idaho (Hayt)
Fic Title: This Path Down To the River
Author: bantha_fodder
Rating/Warning(s): G
Genre: --
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: bantha_fodder will be rec'd here a lot because the work is so good. With an exiguous style employed by the author this fic (and all subsequent recs) allows room for subtlety between the text, giving you an opportunity to peek into the character's introspection. This gives an otherwise deceiving sparseness depth. It follows the journey of the ghola Duncan as he serves House Atredies under Alia's reign as Regent. Duncan's support of his wife plays into direct conflict with his loyalty to House Atredies.
