Epic Gilmore Girls recs are epic!

The show was chatty. You expect less from the fic? Piffle.

Fandom Category: Gilmore Girls
Pairing: Lorelai Gilmore/Luke Danes, Emily Gilmore/Richard Gilmore, Rory Gilmore/Dean Forrester, Rory Gilmore/Marty, Sookie St. James/Jackson Belleville
Fic Title: Separation Anxiety and Everything Old Is New Again
Author: lulabo
Link: Here and here.
Rating/Warning(s): R/NC-17. Spoilers for the end of season 5.
Genre: Introspection, friendship, romance, angst, au, long.
WIP?: Both stories (and the series) are complete.

Why This Must Be Read: I think the best way to describe these two stories is that they really take the characters on the show places I wanted them to go with the show, but know they never could have. Both of these stories are incredible internal stories. All the characters get a shot with the focus hanging heavily on Lorelai, Rory, and Emily. I love that the author, very obviously, adores her subjects and wants so much to help them with their choices and lives, but ultimately, lets the characters drive their own buses. There is so much to love about these stories, but I think the most important thing is that the author doesn't back off the characters' flaws to give them happy endings. She gives them one because of their flaws.

Fandom Category: Gilmore Girls
Pairing: Lorelai Gilmore/Luke Danes, Lorelai Gilmore/Christopher Hayden
Fic Title: Mend on a Wednesday
Author: Once Upon a Whim
Link: Here.
Rating/Warning(s): NC-17, sexytimes.
Genre: Angst, AU, friendship, romance.
WIP?: Complete.

Why This Must Be Read: I kind of hated season seven of Gilmore Girls. Not completely, but huge swaths of it were just. Crap? Missed opportunities? Forced drama? Take your pick, but I pretty much subscribe to all those news letters. Thing is, OUaW takes a lot of the disparate threads of season 7 and manages to do the impossible: She makes Luke and Lorelai's reconciliation make sense. This story got me back to a place of love, and for that alone it deserves a rec. But it's also pretty friggin' well written too.

Fandom Category: Gilmore Girls
Pairing: Lorelai Gilmore/Luke Danes
Fic Title: I've Been Here Before
Author: La Rose Bleue
Link: Here.
Rating/Warning(s): R/NC-17ish, TIME TRAVEL.
Genre: AU (wildly), fixit, friendship, romance.
WIP?: Complete!

Why This Must Be Read: Because it's like nothing else I've seen before in the Gilmore Girls fanfic collective. GG, while fun and interesting, isn't usually one to invite sci-fi/fantasy elements into its surrealistic reality. Which is why this story completely and totally blew my mind. Much like 1632 it doesn't really focus on the how of the time-jumble, it just focuses on the "What now?" aspect. This is probably the ultimate season 5/6/7 fixit, and is one that I reread on a regular basis because it's just so great.

ETA: Due to Gilmore-Fiction closing its doors, this is no longer available online.

Fandom Category: Gilmore Girls
Pairing: Lorelai Gilmore/Luke Danes, Sookie St. James/Jackson Belleville
Fic Title: Joining
Author: netherfield
Link: Here.
Rating/Warning(s): Rish, spoilers through season 5.
Genre: AU, friendship, romance, angst.
WIP?: Complete.

Why This Must Be Read: Netherfield is one of those authors that blazes into a fandom/the universe in this bright, hot ball of productive glory. Leaves everyone gasping and staring at the stunning character insights and amazing prose, then quietly burns out, leaving some damn amazing fiction and a lot of people sitting around blinking and yearning for more. This story is something you need to read because it's a hard story. It's not one where everything hums along perfectly to an incredibly happy (or practical but dented) ending. I love it all the more for its differences.

Fandom Category: Gilmore Girls
Pairing: Lorelai Gilmore/Luke Danes, Rory Gilmore/Jess Mariano, Emily Gilmore/Richard Gilmore, Sookie St. James/Jackson Belleville
Fic Title: Good At Dating, Rules of Engagement, Middle Management, Family Matters (an insert into the end of Middle Management), and Packaged Goods.
Author: Mag68
Link: Please see above and each individual story.
Rating/Warning(s): PG-13 through R, depending on the story. There are NC-17 inserts to several of the stories that are linked off the author's page.
Genre: Epic, friendship, romance, au, angst, introspection.
WIP?: No.

Why This Must Be Read: You want epic Lorelai/Luke romance and general life stuff? This is your bag. It spans years (I'm not kidding) and manages to keep my rather patchy attention. It's also one of the only stories where I anticipate EVERY update. It's like my appointment fanfic instead of tv! Honestly, this story has absolutely everything. From adorable cuddles to baby vomit, this thing has it all.
