Summary: What if Remus's mysterious work for the Order was protecting someone Harry didn't think to worry about? And what if he did it in his capacity as a teacher... at Smeltings?
This is, without a doubt, the most original take on Remus's life during OotP that I've ever read. He's not just sitting around Grimmauld Place, watching Sirius mope.
fernwithy's Remus isn't crippled by his lycanthopy, like some versions of Remus are, and Tonks is more than her abilities as a Metamorphagus. The romance is built from a very strong foundation of deep friendship (Remus is an old friend of Tonks's parents and they've known each other and been friends for most of Tonks's life) and while it doesn't dominate the story (and isn't even really present until the last third of the story), it's one of the best I've ever read. Like the book that inspired this fic, I found this extremely hard to put down, so to speak. It's captivating and beautiful and evocative and utterly original.Don't forget to check out the sequel, "Shades," which takes place during HBP.
