Why This Must Be Read: Love a good UA. This Time War canon-divergence takes a bit to work out, but the results are as perfectly satisfying—and quietly tragic—as the canon itself, and you can practically here the credits theme over the ending.

Why This Must Be Read: This fic is a neat one—though it fits tidily into canon, it breaks open Ten's relationship to River—tenuous and trusting and already asking too much of her—while exploring his lingering guilt about the Donna situation in a clever way I most definitely haven't seen before.

Why This Must Be Read: Tragic and beautiful, this story interweaves the Tenth Doctor's later canon with his burgeoning relationship with River, searching for reasons why she was so shocked that that face didn't know her in the Library. And it finds them.
