Why This Must Be Read: This is a short, angsty fic with sharp edges, written for one of the XF porn battles a while back, where Scully sleeps with Ed Jerse during the season 4 episode "Never Again". The way Scully's relationship with Mulder filters through her actions makes for a fascinating character study that captures anger, frustration, and loneliness both evocatively and concisely. This is a fic that's stuck with me over the years.
