Why This Must Be Read: This series of snippets plucks out wholly in-character, completely lovely moments in between Rose and Ten's proper adventures, while still finding ways to make the little things into adventures of their own.

Why This Must Be Read: I love the poetic language the author weaves into this speculative UA, where Rose arrives back in the Doctor's universe much earlier in s4 and the pair finds something like unity and something like closure. The ending's not what you'd expect, but that doesn't mean it won't satisfy!

Why This Must Be Read: You remember that feeling of finishing "Journey's End" and thinking, Well, bummer for Ten, but I gotta know what happens with Rose and that metacrisis guy? This fic is EXACTLY the follow-up to that inclination that you were looking for.

Why This Must Be Read: Though I'd call this more a character study than anything else, it's such a lovely exploration of a possible adverse effect of hanging with The Doctor on the regular. It also, for me anyway, is an excellent commentary on real-life, non-Reichbard werewolf or sand pirate-related stress.

Why This Must Be Read: I know nonelvis has been recced earlier for this month's challenge, but nonelvis is one of my favorite smutty writers in Doctor Who fandom. I could easily rec several of her fics for this challenge, but I'm only going to rec two for Clara and the Doctor here. In this fic, Clara calls the Doctor for help for her laptop. But Clara doesn't want help for her laptop, and the two embark on a smuttier, sexier encounter instead.

Why This Must Be Read: This is dark and delicious. It starts out with Dean waking up to his eager last-night's-one-night-stand wanting to go another round, who then turns out to be not who or what he thought. I wasn't totally sure where it was going when I started reading, but by the end, it left me with shivers and feels. The author gets into Dean's head so well here - his confusion, realizations, guilt, and so on. It's so well done and the fic is a punch to the stomach in such a great (dark) kinda way.

Why This Must Be Read: As one character says, "Basically, Clara took the universal constant that is Jack’s libido, and weaponized it." The Whoniverse has a lot of variations on how humans can achieve accidental immortality, but this may be the most fun anyone's had with a couple of them.

Why This Must Be Read: The gen is strong with this fic, but its heart lies in the all-too-human relationships that keep the story moving, well after the curtain falls on the 456 disaster and the people closest to it try to recover. (With bonus appearances by some of your faves, don't worry!)

Why This Must Be Read: Amy gets (accidentally but knowingly) pregnant immediately beforeher wedding, instead of immediately after, and deals with it about as well as you'd expect: with a little humor, a little terror, and still an outrageous amount of running.

Why This Must Be Read: Rory and especially Amy lived through a heck of a lot in s5—and canon too often appears to take the Doctor at his word that everything is (or will be) fine. This fic examines how Amy does—and doesn't—deal with everything she's lost and found in the short course of her life, and the author pulls off a neat trick of not letting Amy's faith in her Raggedy Man waver, even when it should.

Why This Must Be Read: In this simple, bittersweet coda to "The Angels Take Manhattan," the Girl Who Waited and the Lone Centurion adjust to being a (mostly) normal couple in midcentury New York. There's not a lot to tell here, for an audience used to racing through time and space, but these little glimpses give you everything you need to know.

Why This Must Be Read: Because it's hilarious, and is absolutely the version of Becky that Supernatural should have given us. Set sometime mid-season 5, there's Becky and Castiel reluctantly bonding, some super charming Becky/Chuck, and a dollop of fandom-y meta and real emotion on top.

Excerpt: Castiel doesn't do much of anything at first. He is distant when Becky attempts conversation, so she leaves him on the couch to watch Chuck's Star Wars DVDs while she researches omens and answers LJ comments in the next room. Some troll totally missed the point of her latest Wincest fic, and she is running out of patience trying to explain that there is a fine line between being formulaic and being in character. But, when the end is nigh, it's hard to get invested in people being wrong on the internet. Sometimes Becky would text Sam information about the omens she's reading up on, but Sam's replies are curt and run along the lines of "thx we already know".

She sends a text to Chuck. "how r u."

"ok," Chuck texts back. "dean is a jerk."

"ikr," Becky replies.

She closes her laptop. The apocalypse is not what she thought it would be.

Why This Must Be Read: I adore River, and "The Husbands of River Song" was an incredible sendoff for the character. This fic is a welcome coda to the episode, taking its time to let her bask in the lengthy "last night" while never forgetting that both characters know it's the end. It's exactly what happened after the credits rolled on Christmas, I'm sure of it.

Why This Must Be Read: This little AU is fairly elegant in its simplicity—a bowtied oddball meets an archeologist with fabulous hair in a park—but it captures the characters beautifully, banter and all, while translating the Whoniverse's otherworldly circumstances neatly into a world that looks more like our own.

Why This Must Be Read: It's hilarious! The summary is: "Sam switches shampoo and suddenly everyone around him is treating him like royalty. These two things may or may not be related. . . ." and that is exactly what happens. It's perfectly in character with great voices in both dialogue and narration. The UST between Dean and Bela is spot on.
