Why This Must Be Read: For my "paper" entry, a tabloid story about the pair leads to some incredible fake-dating hijinks, with all the friends-to-lovers misunderstandings and resolutions you were hoping for. With bonus Bernie Rosenthal!

Why This Must Be Read: The "wood" in this fic is, uh, not of the arboreal variety. Ahem. But it's so good—I practically had to fan myself as Bucky's inadvertent state of arousal morphs into absurd UST into a very, you know, satisfying conclusion, with a nice little dose of feelings in the middle there somewhere.

Why This Must Be Read: A vampire AU for the "copper" (i.e., blood) gift! The prequel to this (at the end of the page here, under "vampire au") is worth a quick read prior to this longer exploration of another way Bucky might have survived falling from the train—with help from the aptly-named Red Room's finest defector. The supernatural components are nicely done, but the real reason to read this is the smut that ensues...especially in later chapters, when their relationship becomes both well-established and deeply enjoyable for all parties involved, including the reader.

Why This Must Be Read: Haunting and evocative. A worthy continuation of the film. It’s filled with doubts and thoughts and through it all the ties that bind Roy and Alexandria. I choose this for “First Year: Paper” (challenge 166) because of the importance of writing in this fanfic.

Fandom: Star Wars
Pairing: Rey/Kylo Ren

Why This Must Be Read: This is for my "wood" anniversary rec, both because the fic takes place in a grove of ancient, sex-pollen-y trees and because of the rampant (and awesome) hatesex between Rey and Kylo Ren. This fic is two people who don't much care for each other being driven crazy by the other, and it is sharp and barbed and a bit blackly funny and also very, very hot.

"Tell me I'm dark. Tell me I'm awful and evil. Tell me you hate me."

"I do hate you," she grits out, grinding back against him. "You are evil and ridiculous."

Fandom: Pirates of the Caribbean

Word Count/WIP?: 5,385

Why This Must Be Read: This post-movie fic finds Elizabeth leading a restless, untethered life on shore with her son—until Jack (of course) offers an alternative. As she tangles with that choice, you don't for a moment doubt her love for Will nor for the open sea, and the author takes the time to let her consider the consequences of her decisions.

Hi friends! While we're in the midst of an awesome anniversary celebration, we've got some not-as-fun mod business to discuss.

The paid subscription for het_reccers is about to run out, which means our tag limit will be reduced to to 1000. Currently, we have nearly 3,000 tags in use, thanks to our status as a paid account. (Paid accounts can have up to 4000 tags.) This means that right now, while we won't lose any of our current tags, we also won't be able add any new tags once the paid status expires—which would be a bummer, especially for getting new fandoms and ships into our archive. A paid account also keeps our community ad-free.

In the past, members of this community have been incredibly generous and bought het_reccers a paid LiveJournal subscription. This is in no way a requirement for us to continue to be a healthy, active community—or for anyone to continue to be active members of it—but if you have the means and inclination to support this community's ability to continue archiving in full, please consider contributing.

Thanks for everything you bring to this community, folks!

For my "cotton" gift, because hospitals and bandages?

Fandom: Harry Potter
Pairing: Padma Patil/George Weasley
Title: Healer
Author: fahye

Rating/Warning(s): R, mentions of character death, nongraphic discussions of human anatomy and nonmagical medicine
Word Count/WIP?: 4,506 (complete)
Recced on LiveJournal By: stars_inthe_sky

Why This Must Be Read: You know those fics that just stick with you, no matter how unlikely the pair or the subject matter? This is one of those stories. In it, two halves of two pairs slowly become a new sort of pair, while helping each other heal after near-unspeakable loss that, really, only the other can understand. The whole piece is framed by Padma's exploration of Muggle medicine in tandem with the magical healing arts, and the result is an eloquent, achingly poignant piece.

Why This Must Be Read: Finally read this from this year's batch of het_bigbang fics and it's beautiful. Remember that painful episode where that thing happens to Jo? So circa season 7, Dean gets sent back in time to fix that thing and save her. Not only is it awesome to see Dean trying to navigate the past with his future knowledge, it's beautiful to see him struggle with his feelings for Jo. It's full of perfect little details, aches and feels, firece stubbornness (it has to be with Dean and Jo, right?), flawless character voices, and some earned, wonderful smut that'll leave you breathless. ;D

Why This Must Be Read: It's AU. It's a beautifully fucked up romance that Lady GaGa would write songs about. It's Hotch and Emily not being perfect, but being completely human; this fic is so emotionally charged it has it's own heart beat. The whole thing plays out as clearly as if you were watching it, personally I think the author has more talent in her pinky finger than some of the writers for the actual show. She has our much loved characters down to a T, whether it's AU or not. I honestly can't say enough about how much I adore this, again, it's a must read for all Hotchniss fans.
